I found the Ai Portfolio Show to be very interesting. Walking into the National Building Museum gave me chills down my spine. I didn’t realize how structured and important this show would be in my future. The first thing that caught my eye was the how the students actually had their work set up. After talking to some of the students I found out that they are only given basically a table, which was pretty amazing considering that their set ups were very likable. I even thought the positioning of all the chairs in the big lobby in front of the podium was very pleasant. To be completely honest I wasn’t too impressed with the graphic designers. I found the animators art work to be way more interesting and appealing. One of the student’s artwork really caught my eye. The artists name is Daniel Araya. He’s a concept illustrator, who creates pieces by scanning sketches into Photoshop and using the paint tool to add values, tints, tones, and shades. After I had left the Portfolio show I had a good idea of what needed to be done for my own. The show also made me a little nervous thinking about what I had to do for mine. I need to be prepared to answer questions about my work. I need to have statements ready and to be able to present my art in front of others. Finally, I need to be able to talk to company owners and try to label myself as a good, intelligent, hard working, articulate, creative graphic designer.
